Description
First launched in April 2010, the Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for black women. The walk is hosted in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness month.
Over the last 15 years, more than 5,000 participants from around the United States travel to Houston, Texas annually to honor and celebrate black women diagnosed with breast cancer. A portion of the funds raised from the Stop the Silence walk benefits Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP). The national program pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors who are currently in treatment.
